Special Event Support:
Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring the success of the Society’s events and programs. There are many ways to get involved, including:
- Event Support: Assisting with seminars, meetings, workshops, and hands-on activities. This may involve staffing, setting up, and taking down events.
- Public Program Assistance: Helping with logistics during public programs to ensure a smooth experience for attendees.
- Donating Refreshments: Contributing baked goods or refreshments to enhance the atmosphere of our events.
Whether you have a few hours to spare or can contribute in other ways, your efforts help make our events successful and support the mission of the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society.

Children’s Tours:
The History of Miller Place Field Study offers students a unique opportunity to explore the local history of Miller Place through an engaging walking tour of the Historic District, which features numerous examples of colonial architecture. The tour culminates at the William Miller House, where a docent-led guide brings the past to life, providing students with a vivid understanding of daily life in early America.
Students also have the chance to explore additional historic landmarks, including:
A one-room post office , The historic barn, showcasing an array of farming tools, a traditional schoolhouse as well as Corn cribs and more.

Maintenance Support:
Do you have a talent or skill that could be helpful? The Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to lend a hand. Whether it’s assisting with small projects, contributing expertise, or simply offering your time, there’s always a way to make a meaningful impact.
Your skills and support, no matter how big or small, can help us continue preserving and sharing the rich history of our community.

Grounds & Gardening Support:
The upkeep of the gardens and grounds at the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society relies heavily on the dedication of volunteers. While the lawn is professionally maintained, all other groundskeeping tasks are carried out by volunteers.
Shrubs and Borders: Three sides of the property are bordered by shrubs.
Flower Beds: Three small flower beds are regularly weeded and cared for by volunteers.
Herb Garden: Maintained by one of the local Girl Scout troops.
Trees: The property boasts several large trees that have stood for generations, while two smaller trees were planted as part of an Eagle Scout project.

Jr. Docent Program:
Objective
To provide students in 7th grade and above with a positive and immersive learning experience centered on the history of Miller Place. The program aims to cultivate a dedicated group of student docents who will contribute to the educational and preservation mission of the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society.

Tour Guide & Docent Program:
Share your passion for history by becoming a docent at the William Miller House. As a docent, you will:
- Guide Visitors: Lead engaging tours of the historic buildings and collections.
- Interpret Exhibits: Help visitors connect with the stories behind the artifacts and architecture.
- Learn and Grow: Receive comprehensive training to ensure you’re well-prepared to provide an enriching experience.

Preservation:
Get hands-on experience in preservation and conservation techniques while actively contributing to the preservation of Miller Place and Mount Sinai’s rich history. This engaging opportunity allows you to:

Join our team and help make a difference! As a volunteer, you will:
- Greet Visitors: Provide a warm and friendly welcome to guests.
